“But without faith it is impossible to walk with God and please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly and diligently seek Him.”
— Hebrews 11:6 (AMP)
How many times have we read this Scripture verse and never really understood some of the subtle concepts in it? As I was meditating on this, I was led to focus on the last portion of it: God rewards those who earnestly and diligently seek Him!!!
Faith is the very foundation of our relationship with God. Without it, the Bible tells us, it is impossible to please Him. But what does it mean to please God? The key to understanding this lies in the second part of Hebrews 11:6, where we are reminded that God is a rewarder. And not just any kind of rewarder—He rewards those who earnestly and diligently seek Him.
To seek God earnestly means to come before Him with sincerity, passion, and commitment. This is not a casual glance in His direction; it’s a focused pursuit. Diligence suggests persistent effort, even when it’s hard, even when we don’t feel like it, and even when the answers don’t come immediately.
But here’s the beauty of seeking God: it always leads to reward. This reward may not always be material or immediate, but it will always be significant. God rewards us with deeper intimacy, peace that surpasses understanding, wisdom for the journey ahead, and strength to overcome challenges. The greatest reward, though, is God Himself—knowing Him, walking with Him, and being transformed by His presence.
So, how can we cultivate this kind of faith? By prioritizing time in God’s Word, making prayer a daily habit, and trusting Him in every area of our lives. When we choose to seek Him above all else, we are positioning ourselves to receive the rewards He has prepared for us.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a rewarder of those who diligently seek You. We ask that You give us hearts filled with faith and the desire to please You in everything we do. Help us to seek You earnestly, to pursue You diligently, and to trust that You will reward us with Your presence, peace, and wisdom. Strengthen our faith, Lord, and help us to walk closer with You each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
